This collection of three-dimensional globe views and maps has been specially developed for licensed use in print and multimedia publications, offering hundreds of digital images created using Planetary Visions' Satellite Imagemap, a highly realistic image of the Earth's entire surface. Derived from thousands of Earth-observation satellite images taken in the 1980s and 1990s, the Satellite Imagemap represents an accurate and detailed portrait of our world at the beginning of the twenty-first century.

The Earth Images Collection provides ready-to-use 3D-rendered images, offering illustrators, graphic designers and editors a high-quality alternative to existing geographical clip-art. The natural-colour, cloud-free images are rendered using specially-written ray-tracing software to simulate atmospheric haze. The other styles combine data from different satellite systems to show typical cloud cover or light from the world's cities at night. Digital bathymetric data is used to show the shape of the seafloor.

Technical Specifications

Each image is stored in two sizes: small images, for multimedia use, are usually 600 pixels across; large images, for print use, are 1920 pixels across - almost the width of an A4 page when printed at 300dpi. Images are stored as high-quality JPEGs, with a set of HTML files allowing easy access via standard web-browsing tools. The images can be exported from your browser or accessed directly on the CDROM from your image processing or page layout software.

Available on a hybrid CDROM for Windows and Macintosh, the Earth Images Collection is a convenient, low-cost resource for books, magazines, newspapers, advertising, corporate communications and the travel industry. Images can be used without royalty payments for most print and multimedia applications, including use on the web.
